What is SSL?

SSL is a term used for the encryption used during secure transactions online such as in a shopping cart or when posting sensitive information. You can identify a secure site by the url, it will begin with https:// instead of http:// - and there will be a lock icon in the top right hand part of your web browser window.

SSL Certificates are available in different encryption levels, the most common is 128 bit encryption and banks and the government typically use blowfish encryption which starts at 512 bits.
